Who we are
A Secretariat, mandated by the general membership was established with funding from the US and Canadian Chapters. It consists of a Board of Directors, supported by an Administrative Staff member. Based in Jamaica, the UWIMAA Secretariat serves as a liaison among all chapters of UWIMAA and the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
The Association originated in 1988 during the University’s 40th anniversary celebrations. It represented a coming together of several existing chapters established in previous years; Barbados Chapter (1984) Canadian Chapter (1985), United States of America (US) Chapter (1986), Jamaica Chapter (1987). Today the association boasts thousands of medical alumni among its membership.
Our Mission
The University of the West Indies Medical Alumni Association is dedicated to providing on an ongoing basis support for the Faculties of Medical Sciences of The University of the West Indies in the areas of fund raising, personnel training and exchange, to the acquisition and distribution of equipment and materials, to the support of research in the area and through all of the above to the betterment of medical care of the people of the Caribbean.
